Every commission starts with a conversation. Whether it’s a piece of furniture or a charcoal portrait, I want to know how it will live — in your space, on your wall, in your family. I don’t start until I understand what you’re actually asking for.

I’ve spent over twenty years working wood. Custom furniture, built-ins, cabinetry — pieces designed with intention and built to outlast the trends they’re adjacent to. I came up through production shops and spent years in lean manufacturing before commission work became the focus. I know the difference between furniture that’s made and furniture that’s built.
The charcoal work runs parallel and always has. Portraits, landscapes, architectural drawings — I take commissions seriously because the subject matters to the person asking. That’s enough reason to get it right.
I’ve written and published books on cabinetry and woodworking, aimed at the people actually doing the work rather than admiring it. I also write poetry, though that’s harder to explain at a job site.
It’s all the same practice — looking closely at something until you understand its structure, then making something true from what you find.
